Owens Companies uses a crane to install the air handling units at Rush City High School

The geothermal HVAC retrofit at Rush City High School hit an exciting milestone this past week as Owens Companies installed new air handling units—carefully lifted into place by crane. This key step brings the school one step closer to a quieter, cleaner, and more energy-efficient heating and cooling system.

The air handlers will work in tandem with a closed-loop geothermal system designed by Darcy Solutions. This innovative system harnesses thermal energy from underground aquifers to heat and cool the building, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering long-term operational costs.

Installing these large units required precise coordination between our field crews and crane operators, ensuring a safe and seamless lift. The upgrade will not only improve day-to-day comfort for students and staff but also deliver long-term benefits in terms of energy savings, reduced maintenance, and a lower environmental impact.

We’re proud to partner with Rush City Schools and Darcy Solutions on this forward-thinking project—and we look forward to seeing the full system come online.
